Clinical Informatics Researcher

Physician-scientist role. PI on prospective studies, clinical workflow design, and representing Chroneme at medical conferences.

The role

You will bridge clinical medicine, informatics, and research. Principal Investigator on prospective validation studies, clinical workflow design, interpreting data patterns that engineers miss, and representing Chroneme where clinical credibility matters.

Many IRBs require a physician PI. Beyond that formal role, your clinical judgment shapes the product itself. You decide whether what we build actually works in a hospital.

Suited for a physician with informatics training, a PhD in clinical informatics, or a researcher with deep clinical decision support experience. Full-time or part-time.

What you’ll do

  • Serving as PI on prospective clinical validation studies
  • Designing study protocols: endpoints, enrollment criteria, workflow integration
  • Interpreting clinical data patterns and providing clinical context to engineering
  • Designing how alerts appear, when they fire, and what actions they suggest
  • Reviewing system outputs for clinical validity
  • Presenting research at clinical informatics conferences
  • Contributing to manuscripts and peer review responses
  • Building relationships with clinician stakeholders at partner sites

Your first year

In your first 12 months: PI on at least one prospective study with IRB approval, clinical workflow design for hospital pilots, and presentation at a national conference.

What you bring

  • Medical degree (MD, DO, MBBS) or doctoral degree (PhD) in biomedical/clinical informatics or closely related field
  • Clinical informatics fellowship, equivalent training, or significant professional experience in clinical decision support
  • Experience with study design and IRB processes
  • Understanding of EHR systems and clinical workflows from the clinician perspective
  • Ability to communicate with both engineering teams and clinical stakeholders

Nice to have

  • Board certification or eligibility in Clinical Informatics (ABPM)
  • Published research in clinical informatics or digital health
  • Experience as PI or co-PI on a clinical study
  • Familiarity with SMART on FHIR or CDS Hooks
  • Experience evaluating AI tools in clinical settings

We value clinical judgment and research experience. Flexible on full-time vs part-time and can accommodate clinical practice or academic appointments.

About Chroneme

Chroneme is building neuro-symbolic AI for medicine: one record of each person, in order and in context, read by learned models and decided by explicit clinical rules that state their reason and their source. It tells the care team who needs attention and why, and prepares the work for a clinician to sign.
